About GIX@

The Ghana Internet eXchange (GIX), launched on October 18, 2005, is operated by the Ghana Internet eXchange Association (GIXA), a non-profit established by GISPA and other stakeholders. Hosted at the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence, GIX facilitates local traffic exchange among ISPs and network operators. GIXA represents these operators, while GISPA advocates for ISPs. The exchange is open to all carriers, including non-GISPA members.

What is the Concept of Internet Exchange

The concept of Internet exchange points is built around interconnecting Internet Service Providers (ISPs and Network Operators) at one point and utilizing dynamic routing techniques, exchanging traffic destined for local services providers connected to the exchange point locally without utilizing the expensive international link capacity.

Our Mission

To operate and grow a neutral, reliable, and inclusive Internet exchange facility that enables local Internet Service Providers and Network Operators to exchange traffic within Ghana, improving network performance and reducing international bandwidth costs. We are committed to building a collaborative community of network stakeholders through the Ghana Internet eXchange Association (GIXA), promoting openness, interoperability, and capacity building in the local Internet ecosystem.

Our Vision

To be the central hub for efficient, secure, and low-latency Internet traffic exchange in Ghana, fostering digital growth, innovation, and connectivity across the nation and West Africa.
